Yes, we’re making this game. Get ready for six fingers of Vuvuzela-blowing action with Vuvuzela Hero. Keep an eye out for a public beta later this week, and the full version sometime before the end of the World Cup.

Choose a team and follow them to all their competitions, from qualifiers through group play and into the knockout rounds. If your team gets eliminated, just pick another one and play on. And there’s no wrong time to play a vuvuzela, although there’s lots of right times.

ClickDesk is the perfect program for playing a prank on someone with a prized laptop or LCD monitor. Its operation is simple: Start the program, hide the window, then start clicking. The program takes a screenshot of the desktop and applies cracks, bubbles, and glitch lines to the image, and from just about any distance looks like something horrible happened to the screen.

Instructions are included with the program. The program has known issues with transparent desktop items like the vista sidebar, and will only run on the primary monitor if multiple monitors are in use. ClickDesk 2010 was supposed to resolve this issue but will not be ready for the April 1st deadline. ClickDesk 2009 can still be downloaded at the link below:

Sometimes I’m not in the mood to work on one of the main projects, or just have a little idea that needs to be taken way too far. Following are the results of some of those projects. Sometimes these ideas make their way into our games, sometimes they turn into games of their own. Either way, I just hope they’re seen as more than a waste of time.

Generations

Take Conway’s Game of Life, make it 3D, but only use the third dimension to represent time. This is Generations. It provides a brand new way of looking at cellular automata, as generally a “top-down” 2D view only provides a snapshot of one point in time. The 3D view provided by Generations gives a better idea of how complex structures grow, evolve, and interact.

You can see other videos, screenshots, and examples at the Generations website.

PHPMud

Try it out yourself!

PHPMud is an attempt to recreate an oldschool MUD experience in a modern browser. Right now the content is a little thin and there’s no real advancement, but it’s something I work on occasionally. The enemies don’t attack back, you get skills based solely on level, and the stats system is a little buggy. Bug me about this one and I’ll probably put some time into it.

Music

I make quite a bit of music, in a variety of styles from electronica to orchestral to ambient.

SynthCrap Vol. 1

This is a mostly electronic album consisting of about a year’s work. It’s a bit rough around the edges but I consider it to be my first “complete” album in terms of production and composition.

“Caverns of Mars” from “SynthCrap Vol. 1″

album5

album5 is a “project” which I completed in the span of a few hours. Let’s just say it turned out about as well as you’d think an album made in a couple hours would.

“Trashcan” from “album5″

UnSynth

UnSynth is my first for-sale album, originally slated to be released mid-July, 2009, but probably will be pushed back to the fall. You can listen to some previews at http://music.xerol.org/unsynth/

It’ll probably be a couple of weeks before we get everything sorted, so bookmark us for now and check back periodically.

We’re working on several projects right now, one of which you’ll get a preview of soon.

For now, here’s a couple of our old projects.

TubeRacer

There’s an old calculator (or BASIC) game where you “drove” a car down a track, and all you had to do was avoid crashing into walls. TubeRacer is basically that, except in 3D. Add in some extreme speed, some powerups, and several game modes, and there you have it. This never really got far beyond a small personal project but you can pick it up here.

Snake Lab

Remember Nibbles? That old QBasic game, or maybe you played it on a TI-83, or more recently on your cell phone. Snake Lab takes another classic 2D game and adds another dimension to it.

This is just a preview, and the project is on the back burner for the moment, but it’s definitely something we’ll be putting time into in the future.
